The value, recognition and demand of professional certification is constantly rising within the rapidly changing world. Thus, the decision of whether or not to get certified against a particular standard has become easier to reach. However, while certificates come with credentials, questions such as “What is the actual value of a credential?”, “How can I convince my employer that this credential counts?” “How can I trust my employees about their credentials?” arise.
To answer these questions and many more, PECB is proud to be a pilot-site partner of the
Credential Transparency Initiative (CTI), which will create greater coherence and transparency in the U.S. credentialing marketplace. Funded by
Lumina Foundation and led by the
George Washington University’s Institute of Public Policy (GWIPP),
Workcred – an affiliate of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and
Southern Illinois University (SIU) - the initiative will develop common terms for describing key features of credentials; create a voluntary, web-based registry for sharing the resulting information; and test practical apps (software applications) for employers, students, educators, and other credential stakeholders.
The Credential Registry will allow users to see what various credentials represent in terms of competencies, transfer value assessment rigor, third-party approval status, and much more. The initiative will develop a Credential Directory app, which will allow registry users to access the websites of participating credential issuers, build customized directories of credentials based on their own criteria, and publish the results.
In its role as a pilot-site partner, PECB plays an essential role in the Initiative by making information about our credentials and quality assurance processes available to the registry for the pilot test. CTI pilot-site partners are at the forefront of pioneering technology efforts to drive a more coherent and transparent U.S. credentialing marketplace, one that all users can understand and use effectively. Consequently, we want to contribute to the standardization and optimization of human best practices, and make them accessible to the whole world, so why not be transparent about it?
Everyday PECB is one step closer to our vision of a world where best practices are widely disseminated, accessible, affordable, known and used. Our mission to enhance the accessibility of standards, compliance and education for people and organizations by reducing the certification costs and widening the range for education and certification programs is gradually being accomplished.
As a global organization, we reflect professionalism by demonstrating reliability, displaying competence, adhering to our code of ethics and proving accountability. We are proud to be part of this initiative that will only strengthen our commitment to equality, loyalty, and honesty.
